Mana Up is looking for a Director of Retail to operate and expand our retail initiative - House of Mana Up.


About Mana Up


Mana Up is a Hawaiʻi economic development initiative to expand opportunity, entrepreneurship and jobs, designed for local brands.We help Hawaiʻi companies expand within Hawaiʻi and globally through a six-month accelerator and alumni program that curates workshops, executive mentorship, resources, sales opportunities, and a strong community of collaboration.


House of Mana Up is a retail experience that shines the spotlight on the unique stories of Hawai’i’s rising entrepreneurs and the premium brands they’ve built. We feature products from our local makers and artisans that represent their individual narratives. Many of the entrepreneurs featured at House of Mana Up have been recognized internationally for their products’ high quality or innovation.


A strong, local product economy provides a strong fabric to our community and can champion:

About the position


The Director of Retail will effectively lead, develop and support the sales and operations of House of Mana Up’s stores and other sales channels.  We are looking for a strong, decisive and collaborative leader who builds a climate of service excellence and leads the team to deliver extraordinary customer experiences and partners with Mana Up’s leadership to expand the impact of the organization.  


Areas of responsibility:


- Sales: through traditional and digital methods, find ways to expand retail and online revenue.  Identify business opportunities and implement actions to consistently achieve or exceed monthly, quarterly and annual channel sales plan. Demonstrate sales leadership by playing an active role on the sales floor and managing customer relationships personally. Manage and motivate the team to drive business through key product pillars.

- Service: Elevate the in store and online experience by consistently delivering high quality experiences. Lead, model and coach proven customer service pillars. Ensure continuous guest experience with presence on the sales floor, coaching the team on our sales methods, Optimize hospitality and product development to create unique experiences.

- Talent: Elevate and hire talent to ensure a winning team and create a best in class service & selling organization. Develop and execute a talent development plan for employees. Accurately assess capabilities and build robust development plans to grow talent at all levels and assist career growth. Continuously encourage, coach, and provide qualitative feedback, utilizing reward and recognition as well as performance management process to improve team engagement and performance. 

- P&L Responsibility: The Director of Retail will have P&L responsibility, ensuring the sales and profitability targets are met.  

- Expansion:  find ways to expand revenue, presence, impact through different ways. Be able to create systems in the context of a growing organization. 

- Desired (but not required) additional skill sets: 

1. Product Development and Purchasing 

2. Merchandising

3. Retail marketing


The Director of Retail will be responsible for managing the store retail team and employees, the Buyer, and collaborating with warehouse, marketing, and other teams. 


Required Qualifications:


- Minimum of 7-10 years of sales management experience in retail or relevant client related experience. 

- Proven track record in sales generation, managing the achievement of sales goals.

- Flexibility to work non-traditional hours, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

- Proven ability to develop new opportunities and maintain partner relationships

- Proficiency in office software tools such as Google Business, Slack, Shopify or other systems.

- Flexibility to work in various roles based on business needs (i.e., on the sales floor, operations, etc.).

- Must have authorization to work in the United States.
